We wanted to take a minute and congratulate Matt Pearson, the architect of this incredible house we photographed over the summer. (See original post here) He just called the other day to let us know that he has been awarded the Merit of Excellence in Design by the American Institute of Architects! How awesome is that?!

So, as a part of getting back into blogging each day ... I have decided to finally share a post that's been running around in my head for a while. Maybe not in blog-post form, but more in an I LOVE SHOES form. ;) Ever since my friend and I would meet up in the Nordstrom Shoe Section as a way to start all of our trips to the mall, I think I've been in love. I mean, they're just shoes, right?! WRONG. Shoes can tell a lot about a person, especially if you look at their shoe collection as a whole. If you opened up my shoe closet you would notice a lack of heels. Perhaps only a few pairs ... but mostly flats and boots. I LOVE boots, and while I love the look of heels I just can't walk in them and have no intention of really ever mastering that art. ;) I do admire those girls that can run down the streets of NY wearing 5 inch stilettos! Wedding shoes also say a lot about the bride - glamorous, elegant, girly, funky, cute, etc...though personally I wore Converse tennis shoes. ;)

In celebration (or is it mourning?!) of the first semi-week back to school for most of our seniors, we decided to ask a few of them some questions to get to know them better. ;) First up is Olivia, a senior from Har-Ber High School that we photographed back in June. We had a blast with her and her mom and sister who came along ... I don't know if there was any point during the session that we weren't laughing!
Q // Where would you live if you could live anywhere you wanted?
A // I would live anywhere with mountains :)
Q // What do you want to do when you “grow up”?
A // well, I'm not sure but I think if would be cool to be a family lawyer or a judge, or a news anchor.
Q // Do you have any phobias?
A // I really hate spiders, and I'm very afraid of natural disasters, particularily fires, tornadoes, and storms while I am in an airplane.
Q // What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?
A // I don't really branch out enought to eat anything out of the ordinary...
Q // What are you most looking forward to during your senior year?
A // Going on a mission trip to Guatemala over spring break.
Q // What was the best part of getting your senior photos done?
A // I loved how much fun you guys were, and it was really cool to see how the pictures turned out. Thanks for awesome senior pictures!

On one of our final days in NYC this July, I decided that getting up early to see Central Park before the tourists arrive would be a good idea. And although I was a little tired, it definitely paid off. Walking into the W72nd entrance was rather peaceful - no bike and double decker tour guides yelling at you, no rickshaws lined up trying to get you to ride through the park, and not even anybody begging for food or money. Just some joggers and dog walkers. As I neared Bethesda Fountain I noticed that there were quite a few more people, and thought they must just like to beat the crowds, too. I sat down at the fountain to check some emails and people watch ... and before I knew it cameras and lights were being wheeled in, and security was now standing at the entrances to the paths that lead down to the fountain. And all those people down there with me? Extras in a movie. A full length movie starring Justin Timberlake. There were even paparazzi getting ready to photograph the actors. I realized then that I couldn't leave, or else I probably wouldn't be let back in! I started to talking with some of the actors, basically pretending that I was an extra, and supposed to be there, you know. The crew filmed several scenes of just background people, which I guess they will use in the movie to set the atmosphere. Then, out walked Justin Timberlake from underneath the bridge. The paparazzi was going nuts as they started filming scenes with him in it. I ended up standing just behind where the extras were waiting for their cues, and took this video! It was quite the experience, and really incredible to see how they film such short sections of a movie to put it all together. In case you're wondering, the movie is "tentatively" called "Friends with Benefits." (Classy, of course haha) It's supposed to come out in 2011, so I may have to watch it just to see how everything comes together!

Even though it was incredibly hot outside, Samantha + Tim's outdoor wedding and barn reception at Pratt Place was gorgeous! Samantha is an outdoorsy girl, so it was only fitting that she would have such a natural theme. From succulents in her bouquet to large branches and flowers decorating the barn, all of the decor and mood provided by designers Chris and Josh of Junkerman and Jones was to die for!
We wish Samantha and Tim the best, especially as they are preparing to open their new gastropub on Dickson St in Fayetteville - Farrell's Lounge!!

We traveled to Wichita a couple of weeks ago to photograph this incredible hot dog restaurant. In the process, we also discovered that their food is quite tasty, and in fact I am still dreaming about those tater tots. ;) But back to the photos...
Bekah and Adam Wagoner recently graduated from Kansas State school of Architecture and instead of looking for small-time jobs at firms, they had the amazing opportunity to design a restaurant from scratch! The main idea of the building was to have two "boxes" connected in the middle by an open and airy eating section that feels almost outside. When looking at the building, the left side is the kitchen and ordering area, and the right is the bar and restrooms. I love all of their green details, especially the light tubes in the restrooms and bar area, and positioning the building so that it's out of direct sunlight in the summer but gets more in the winter to help heat. One of my favorite small details is the inlaid logo on all of the concrete tables, and the attention to branding throughout the design really helps them stand out. Even the dumpster area was designed ;)
Getting up at 5am to get the perfect morning light wasn't easy, but definitely worth it to photograph such a great modern building.

We LOVE when families bring their pets with them for photoshoots...especially when they are unique and exceptionally cute. ;) We photographed the Mohler's several weeks back and had a BLAST! We first met Mark and Pauline when they hired us for their wedding three years ago, and immediately fell in love with their whole family! Right now we're in the process of putting together a "mommy" album for Pauline that includes several photos of the kids from the past three years ... along with their various pets. Both this cute little puppy and hairless cat are new additions, and I have to say that although I generally like dogs better, Zadie the hairless cat is precious! She has the cutest little personality - always exploring her surroundings. And she kind of feels like a warm peach ;) Enjoy this sneak peek from their session, and there will be more to come soon on facebook!
